VIDEO: Making it Out
Speaking from personal experience, being a musician in a small town can be pretty crap. You can only get so big until you seem to hit a wall, where your only options of growth become touring out of town or getting signed to a professional label or promoter.
In this short documentary, which was made for a broadcast journalism class, local band Silas Reed n' the Books tells us what it's like to be 'stuck in the middle'.

VIDEO: Conspicious Consumption
Oxford Mississippi's Double Decker Festival is wholesome entertainment the entire family can enjoy. Street vendors selling arts and crafts, lively music, and games for the kids. But as with many facets of life in Oxford, there exists a hidden undercurrent of social deviancy.
Perhaps no group better demonstrates this then OUCH³. The Oxford University Community Hash House Harriers.
This self-described "drinking club with a running problem" meets once a month and runs along hidden trails anywhere from 2-7 miles. On the way, "hashers" are required to stop at secret checkpoints, chug a beer from a concealed cooler or perfectly-timed "beer wagon", and continue to the next checkpoint. By the end most runners are so exhausted, they might actually think Admiral Ackbar IS Colonel Reb.
According to the Local Voice, Hash Runs date back to the 1930's. While it's unclear exactly how long the Oxford chapter has been at it, the fact that it only costs $10 to party will probably solidify it's future for a long time.

VIDEO: Orphan Maker
While Annie the Musical may have been written in 1976, and achieved great critical and commercial success since, few are aware of it's seldom-mentioned sequel. We now present the official trailer to that sequel: Little Annie Ophan Maker.
This video was written and produced by the Laff Co. improv comedy troupe in Oxford, MS. Check out their show's the first Thursday of every month at the Powerhouse theatre in Oxford, or online at www.myspace.com/laffco
Though technically I had this up on YouTube already, I added in a Laff Co slate and some pop chops. Enjoy!

VIDEO: That Not So Fresh Feeling
Ladies, we've all been there - hanging out with a gorgeous guy thinking tonight's going to be the night. He's an unemployed musician slash photographer who just might be the one. Then all the sudden things go south - when it gets intimate he starts acting weird. Then he leaves suddenly and won't answer your texts...
Is he just not that into you?
Well, maybe, but maybe not. Perhaps all you really needed was this fantastic new product for the girl on the go.
This video was produced for a performance of Laff Co - Oxford's premiere improv comedy troupe. For more information on Laff Co. visit their Myspace.
VIDEO: Workplace Gender Roles
Welcome to Movie Mondays! Starting today I'm going to be posting a new video in the feed every Monday until I run out of new stuff (unlikely), or get too lazy to post it (very likely).
Sure, we all know men and women are different. Men like monster trucks, women like, I don't know - crying and ponies or something. Occasionally, however, these differences can cause conflict - especially in the workplace. This short film examines men and women's roles in the workplace and just might save you from a sexual assault lawsuit.
This week's video was produced as a final project for my women's studies class. Tricked into thinking I would be banging my hot classmates, I decided to go out in style - by producing this masochistic film about a woman's role in the workplace. All I got when I showed it in class were stunned looks - totally awesome.

VIDEO: Grill Drippins
Are you still wasting drips from your countertop grill? Shame on you!
This film originally premiered at the 2009 Oxford Film Festival, and has since won hundreds of awards. Some have called it the 2001: A Space Odyssey of the modern times. The internet times.
