PODCAST: BDPE Episode 59

BDPE IS BACK! If I had a dollar every time I said that, I'd be making a living in a very unusual way.

In all seriousness, because of travel and all that family bullshit, the holidays alway seem to be a difficult time for us to record shows. Thankfully the annual alcohol induced haze from Thanksgiving to New Years has past, and more heat is warming up them pipes.

We talk about so much garbage this week I don't even want to list it all. EA, the NFL, DJ Hero, Activision, and the responsibilities of being a large publisher. We also discuss good games MW2 showed back into first quarter 2010, and give an overview of today's most influential titles in porn gaming.

Also on this week's show we talk releases, micro-judgment Lego Indiana Jones 2, Dragon Age, Zelda Spirit Tracks, and Borderlands DLC.

PODCAST: BDPE Episode 57

Video games sure are a lot of fun. Shootin' guns, drivin' trucks, realtimin' strategies - there are so many ways to be entertained. But it's easy to forget the video games industry is a business. And not just a business - a multi-billion dollar, light my cuban cigar with a burning hundred dollar bill, global juggernaut of entertainment, business.

Bobby Kotick, current CEO of Activision, is one of those cigar-smoking, scotch-swilling barons that is stifling the creativity of the industry. Not only that, he's making an ASSLOAD of that paper along the way. So this week we discuss the role of business vs. creativity in the gaming industry.

Also on this week's show Miller EA tells Pandemic "It's not you, it's me", Modern Warfare 2 censored in Russia - Zangief upset, and triple A sequels sell like gangbusters while original IP's flounder (sorry Tim Schafer). We also review the new Xbox Live update with Facebook and Twitter, giving us something to do on Xbox Live besides waste money on avatars when we're drunk.

So apparently, a little game called Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 came out this week. But you probably already knew that since the entire gaming industry is jerking off to it right now. Though this show was recorded a few days prior, we discuss some of the legacy and controversy surrounding it's launch.

Also on this week's show Miller babbles about independent software development, we can finally stream tentacle rape on PS3, and Nine Inch Nails janks Halo: Reach. We also review DJ Hero, where you too can chop pops, and Borderlands, Diablo 2 + GUNZ = Perfect.

So many good games are out at the moment! Even William Miller is playing games, so you know something must be up...

VIDEO: Orphan Maker

While Annie the Musical may have been written in 1976, and achieved great critical and commercial success since, few are aware of it's seldom-mentioned sequel. We now present the official trailer to that sequel: Little Annie Ophan Maker.

This video was written and produced by the Laff Co. improv comedy troupe in Oxford, MS. Check out their show's the first Thursday of every month at the Powerhouse theatre in Oxford, or online at www.myspace.com/laffco

Though technically I had this up on YouTube already, I added in a Laff Co slate and some pop chops. Enjoy!

HEAT: BHS Ready to Kick Ass

If I had a dollar every time someone bitched at me about fixing this busted site, or putting a new show out, or getting more content online, this website might actually turn a profit.

But fear not monglers, BHS / BDPE is back in business! Our forums have been fixed thanks to SudoSushi, and he's got some secret site update heat in the pipeline too. In addition, I've posted a new blog article below which features BREASTS, and plan on having some sort of new content every few days (ideally everyday).

I've been doing a lot of thinking about this site lately and why it always seems to fall by the wayside when I get busy, resulting in weeks, if not months of lapses in heat. Now keep in mind, it ain't easy being BLAKEBUCK - eating burgers all day, making dick jokes, failing out of classes, rubbing butter on myself, etc.

I've known some of you monglers for over five years from the IMG days. And five years from now, I have no goddamn idea what I'll be doing. Podcasting, filmmaking, radio, DJing, writing, I got no clue. But I do know BigHotSho will still be there, because this is what I was meant to do.

Alright, those are the last feelings you'll ever hear come out of the mouth of BLAKEBUCK.

SO FUCK YOU ASSHOLES AND WELCOME BACK!

BUCKBLOG: All the Ugly People, Where Do They All Come From?

Over one’s time spent in college, particularly here at Ole Miss, one grows accustomed to seeing college students. Particularly, young and attractive college students. Several times during my tenure here, friends from other colleges or parts of the south will visit and ask me, “Good lord, how are there so many hot girls at this school?”

When surrounded by such an environment, it can be easy to overlook the great excess in which we live. And while I could wax poetic for 700 more words on how privileged I am to live in a town filled hot young sorority sisters with alcohol addictions, I’d actually like to comment on the other side of the coin.

The Mid-South Fair in Southhaven, Mississippi. Never will you find a more wretched hive of loathsome and horribly unattractive people. While local writer Neil White may have written in his new book of his time at a Louisiana lepper colony, who knew the parking lot of the DeSoto Civic center could give it a run for it’s money?

Upon entering the gates I’m greeted by a sea of universally sad and defeated faces. While I don’t consider myself anywhere close to the slender and suspiciously homoerotic models of Abercrombie and Fitch, here in DeSoto I’m at least an A-. Particularly considering my teeth are correctly aligned, I can breath through my nose, and I’m not wearing a shirt depict a wolf howling at the moon I got from the Chevron.

In a way it’s even a sort of ego boost.

Now in defense of the Mid-South Fair, to most people it would seem like a fairly average place. But I am from Oxford, and thus fall victim to a condition known as EHIS, or Excessive Hotness Isolation Syndrome. Ask any student who’s taken a trip back to their hometown or anywhere near Starkville and you’ll hear the exact same thing.

So I salute you, girl running down Jackson avenue at 6:30 in the morning as I drive to work eating a McGriddle, for keeping this town beautiful.

POP CHOPPER: Queen Skank

So I'm not a huge fan of Fat Boy Slim or Queen. But they do have their moments, and what's better than bringing two great moments in music together?

Free booze. And hot chicks. And money. Okay I guess there are a couple things better than this track. Not much though.

FatBoy Slim's The Rockafeller Skank is one of those songs you can't help but jam to - even though it makes no sense. Is he saying "R-r-r-r-r-Russell Stovers. Russell Stovers" Or is that just because I think about cupcakes constantly?

Queen's Don't Stop Me Now is easily the band's greatest track, with Freddy Mercury's insane vocals and bizarre lyrics providing the perfect backdrop to a kick-ass rock song.

Also, one day I will be Flavor Flav. You mark my words.

PODCAST: BDPE Episode 52

You may have noticed we're running a bit behind here on BHS, but fear not! This isn't the beginning of a multi-month slump - I've been moving back to Mississippi this week. We should be getting back to our regular schedule in the next few days.

On this week's BDPE we talk about how Squaresoft has given up on creativity, Brutal Legend owns Activision, Best Buy selling new games at used prices, and Scratch is now officially dead. Plus we review some summer XBLA games and try to figure out why celebrities drive sales in video games.

If you have any feedback email us here or call the listener line at 845-BATTLE-9. You can also talk amongst yourselves in the forums.

VIDEO: That Not So Fresh Feeling

Ladies, we've all been there - hanging out with a gorgeous guy thinking tonight's going to be the night. He's an unemployed musician slash photographer who just might be the one. Then all the sudden things go south - when it gets intimate he starts acting weird. Then he leaves suddenly and won't answer your texts...

Is he just not that into you?

Well, maybe, but maybe not. Perhaps all you really needed was this fantastic new product for the girl on the go.

This video was produced for a performance of Laff Co - Oxford's premiere improv comedy troupe. For more information on Laff Co. visit their Myspace.
